“Trickster. Wild Life”
abject (rabbit pellets, leather glue, artificial stones)
2016(…) In Japanese mythology it is believed that spots on the moon depict a rabbit. Its image was placed there by the god Taishakuten in gratitude to the rabbit who, sacrificing its life, threw itself into the fire to feed a hungry wanderer with its baked body. Taishakuten decided to honour the rabbit by praising its generosity to the people. Sculptures made of natural material coming directly from the viscera, made of rabbit pellets accentuate the circulation of matter. You are what you eat. In Orzechowska’s installation, the rabbit takes on its original form, yet far from its boundless service to humans. The cunning sparkle in its eyes reminds us about its reproductive abilities and survival skills rather than about it being a weak link in the food chain. Perhaps after the apocalypse, these small mammals will conquer not only the earth, but also the cosmos.
