“Greetings from Eternity”
series of collages on the postcards | edition 1 | sizes approximately 10 × 15 cm
2012Patrycja Orzechowska’s collages tell of human presence on this strange planet Earth. It is a very subjective, but at the same time universal vision, an interpretation of our existence. Postcards depicting standard views of nature: mountains, valleys, lakes, carry the theme of the unknown. It is the motif of a crowd inscribed in nature, of a thousand human individuals enmeshed in mountain ranges, of reflections of water. Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? They seem to answer these flagship questions—nameless grey faces. The mystery of human existence contained in these works is underlined by the very title: Greetings from Eternity. Perhaps future generations will discover us and ask similar questions? Orzechowska’s works remind me of Andreas Gurski’s art, his photographs of the crowd. Unlike that artist, however, Orzechowska’s collages are not so much spectacular—they are rather an intimate relationship between art and their viewer, and it is not just about their small size, but about the beauty enclosed in a few centimetres.
