installation, 200 thermoses (abrasive, thermos glass inside) | variable dimension

2018

The Greek word therme means warmth. According to one theory about the end of the world, life on Earth will die as a result of global warming. With this scenario, humankind’s expansion may be directed towards other planets in the Solar System.

Lunar landscape with Dewar flasks was created from decaying, fragile and inconspicuous objects. We know them well from our households, but it is the laboratory from where they originated. Without the quiet of the lab, there would be no science, and without it the conquest of the cosmos would be impossible.

The word ‘termos’, although it is a proper name, sounds like the name of a Greek deity. The unique character of this object lies in its tangible materiality. Glass interiors from the previous era owe their cosmic appearance to the work of human hands. Probably each of them was handmade, “blown out” in the glassworks. Stellar dust lining the surface is an abrasive – a material used to clean and abrade old materials.
